A collaborative print demonstrating love and shared passions.
This original woodblock print of a pair of hares is based on a simple line drawing by my husband Ian. He's a furniture maker, and so our creative endeavours are both centred on wood.
When we lived out of town, it was a common occurrence to spot hares in the fields on the way to and from work, but we never tired of catching sight of these special creatures. Rather than using one of my many photos of hares however, I asked Ian to draw me a design that I could then turn into a print.
The resulting print has been created in layers, as I wanted to intensify the ink colour in the parts where the two hares overlap. In my eyes, the deeper colour in these areas signifies the cherished shared existence that grows within a loving relationship between two separate beings.
I've used the cherry blocks I carved for this design to create four different hare prints over time, but this was the first one. I created and carved a special seal to emboss into the corner of every hare print to mark the collaborative effort involved in its making.
Available mounted in a 10" × 10" format.
