A chirpy chappy, this design features a male chaffinch perched on a branch, his feathers all fluffed up against the cold. It's based on a photograph I took during a walk near Threave Castle, where I heard the song long before I spotted him - singing his little heart out on a winter's day.

For me, it captures one of those moments that makes you stop and notice what's happening around you. This bird's bright colours and cheerful tune brought a bit of warmth to a cold day.

The original design was carved into blocks of tulip wood and printed in many layers of colour. A combination of woodblocks and hand-cut stencils allowed me to build up the subtle variations in tone and detail that give the finished image its depth and character.

Is this an original, or a reproduction print?

This is an archival quality fine art reproduction print based on my handmade original of the design.

How big is it?

If you're buying an unframed print the size refers to the size of the paper it's printed on. (The actual printed area will be slightly smaller due to the unprinted border).

If you're choosing a framed print, the size refers to the glass size. The actual printed area will be smaller to accommodate the width of the mount/matt.

If you choose an unframed print, you can discuss your mount and frame requirements with your framer to suit your own taste.

What type of paper is it printed on?

I specify Hahnemühle Bamboo FineArt paper for my reproduction prints. It has a luxurious velvety texture and soft warm tone which suits my designs perfectly.

Does it come with the mount?

The mount/matt is not included for the unframed versions, but is included in the framed versions.

How is it packed for posting?

Unframed prints are sent in a protective sleeve within a rigid cardboard mailing envelope.

Framed prints are packaged with protective bubble and/or cardboard and/or corners protectors for safe transit.

Is the packaging eco friendly?

All packaging is as environmentally friendly as possible, and can be reused or recycled.

What are the delivery costs and timescales?

No extra shipping costs are added at check out - the price you see include packaging and postage. These items are made to order, with usual delivery time between 6-10 working days.
