An egret rests on a branch with the snow falling softly around it in a scene of winter stillness. Based on the classic design by the Japanese master Ohara Koson, I've carved my own block and printed from it by hand to create this simple black and white version.

Each print is made using Japanese woodblock techniques, carved into cherry wood and printed by hand. The fine detail of the carving and the subtle texture of the paper combine to give the piece a timeless, meditative quality.

With a double mount in soft cream and black that complements the monochrome palette, this artwork brings a Japanese sense of calm and contemplation.

Choose mounted, ready to frame at 8" x 12", or framed in thin black wood, ready to hang.

Further Details

Is this an original, or a reproduction print?

This is a hand-made original woodblock print, meticulously crafted by me in my Kirkcudbright studio. I carved the design into blocks of wood and printed from those blocks onto printmaking paper with archival pigment inks to create this keepsake artwork.

How big is it?

If you're buying an unframed print the size refers to the overall size of the mount.

If you're choosing the framed version, the size refers to the overall frame size, which is larger due to the width of the frame moulding.

What type of paper is it printed on?

The paper for this print is Zerkall printmaking paper - a smooth paper with a warm, creamy tone. The inks are water-based pigment inks of archival quality for longevity.

Does it come with the mount?

The bespoke double bevel-cut mount is included in both the unframed and framed versions.

How is it packed for posting?

Unframed prints are sent in a protective sleeve within a rigid cardboard mailing envelope.

Framed prints are packaged with protective bubble and/or cardboard for safe transit.

Is the packaging eco friendly?

All packaging is as environmentally friendly as possible, and can be reused or recycled.

What are the delivery costs and timescales?

No extra shipping costs are added at check out - the price you see includes packaging and postage. Hand-made prints are created, mounted and framed in my studio. For unframed pieces, the delivery time is generally within 1 week as these are usually in stock, ready to send out to you. Please note that framed versions may not be immediately available, so could take upto 2-3 weeks to arrive. I will be in touch to advise of a delivery timescale once you've placed your order.

What about returns and refunds?

In the unlikely event that your print arrives damaged, please contact me to arrange a replacement or refund.

Returns for any other reason are discretionary, and limited to 30 days from placing your order. Please get in touch and I'll aim to help you out.
