This elegant design is a fusion of two passions – my fondness for the iris flower itself, and my fascination with the woodblock printmaking tradition of Japan. Originating from a thoughtfully composed photograph taken by my dad, this image features all that I love about irises – the slender leaves and stems, the bold, architectural structure of the flowers, softened by their papery petals, the promise of the flower within the intensity of its tightly wrapped bud, the varying shades of blue – or is it purple?

What you'll love about this print:

  • This print is part of a limited edition of 70 — each one is hand-printed, signed, numbered, and embossed with my signature seal, making it a special piece to own. Once this edition sells out, no more hand-printed versions will be made. While high-quality reproductions are available of this design, these original hand-pulled prints are a rare part of a small batch, each with its own unique character.
  • Symbol of good fortune - In Japan, irises are seen as bringers of good fortune, and symbolise protection, purification, and the warding off of evil spirits.
  • Introduce a touch of Japan - This print brings both the Japanese symbolism and the aesthetic charm of these flowers together, a perfect way to bring beauty and meaning into your space.
  • Lovingly hand-carved and printed, using 17 different blocks, it's a fine example of craftsmanship and creativity.

Is this an original, or a reproduction print?

This is a hand-made original woodblock print, meticulously crafted by me in my Kirkcudbright studio. I carved the design into blocks of wood and printed from those blocks onto soft, fluffy Japanese paper with archival pigment inks to create this keepsake artwork - make it yours to treasure for years to come.

How big is it?

If you're buying an unframed print the size refers to the overall size of the mount.

If you're choosing a framed print, the size refers to the glass size. The width of the frame moulding will add a couple of centimetres each way to the final dimensions.

What type of paper is it printed on?

The paper for this print is Japanese kanoko - a beautifully soft, fluffy paper with a warm, creamy tone. The inks are water-based pigment inks of archival quality for longevity.

Does it come with the mount?

Yes! The double bevel-cut mount is included in both the unframed and framed versions.

How is it packed for posting?

Unframed prints are sent in a protective sleeve within a rigid cardboard mailing envelope.

Framed prints are packaged with protective bubble and/or cardboard for safe transit.

Is the packaging eco friendly?

All packaging is as environmentally friendly as possible, and can be reused or recycled.

What are the delivery costs and timescales?

No extra shipping costs are added at check out - the price you see is the price you pay! Usual delivery time is within 1 week. Hand-made prints are created, mounted and framed in my studio. Unframed versions are usually in stock, ready to send out to you. Framed versions may not be immediately available, so could take upto 2/3 weeks to arrive. I will be in touch to advise of a delivery timescale once you've placed your order.

What about returns and refunds?

In the unlikely event that your print arrives damaged, please contact me to arrange a replacement or refund.

Returns for any other reason are discretionary, and limited to 30 days from placing your order. Please get in touch and I'll aim to help you out.
