This hand-carved and printed design depicts a pure white bloom of a magnolia stellata. The flower was photographed in the garden of my previous studio, capturing the delicate simplicity of this type of magnolia with its slender petals.
Each print is made using woodblock techniques - the design is carved into cherry wood blocks and printed by hand. For the middle of this flower and the stem, I've also employed stencilling techniques to achieve the range of colours. The white of the petals is the unprinted paper, and when viewed from an angle, the embossing on the petals becomes apparent, and the paper fibres glisten in the light, adding another dimension to the artwork.
With a double bevel cut mount chosen to complement the colours in the design, this handcrafted print is ready to frame at 10" x 10".
What makes this one special?
- A botanical study - featuring a magnolia stellata flower.
- A peaceful, contemplative artwork - that suits both modern and traditional interiors.
- Hand-carved and printed - the embossing and the white unprinted areas give the design a delicate texture and depth.
