A russula mushroom print that draws you in for a closer look.
On a woodland walk on the Isle of Arran, I kept noticing little bright red mushroom caps standing out against the greens and browns of the forest floor. Attracted by the colour, and their small, perfect form, I had to get closer for some photos.
It's never long before mushrooms start to decay or are nibbled by forest creatures, so seeing these ones at just the right moment felt special, and I wanted to honour both the subject and the experience in print form. The resulting print is life size in scale which reflects the viewing experience particularly well, encouraging you to move closer to look more carefully.
This tiny design has been hand-carved into wood and printed by hand, in small batches with each colour built up in layers. Every print is made individually, creating subtle variations that reflect the handmade process.
It's an open edition of originals, each signed and numbered in pencil.
Presented in a wide double mount that measures either 10" × 10" or 8" x 8" sizes to fit into standard square frames.
