This hand-carved and printed design features iris flowers and is part of my white flowers collection.
Irises are a favourite flower of mine - I'm drawn to their architectural structure, and the contrast between the sword-like leaves and the softness of the papery petals. They also come in a wide variety of colours, and I've used the unprinted paper to create white ones in this print.
Closer inspection of the print reveals the embossing of the petals, and also the visible fibres of this white Tosa-shi paper that glisten when they catch the light. These details add a textural dimension that is made possible due to the handcrafted nature of the piece, and add life to the print.
Each print is made using relief and stencilling printing techniques, adding in layers of colour to gradually build the image.
With a double bevel-cut mount chosen to complement the colours within the design, this handcrafted print is ready to frame at 7" x 10", or choose framed in thin black wood, ready to hang.
What makes this one special?
