Have we met?

I'm Claire, a self-taught printmaker with a particular passion for Japanese woodblock techniques. I create original handmade prints using woodblocks and/or stencils to build up layer upon layer of colour by hand using sponges, brushes and a baren (Japanese hand press).

To make my work more accessible to a wider audience, I also now offer fine art reproductions of selected designs – carefully produced to honour the spirit of the handmade originals.

My designs range from gentle, calming scenes and delicate nature studies to joyful celebrations of things that make me smile.

There's a story behind each piece, and what they all have in common is a combination of my passion for print with my wonder at the world.

But what got me started?

How do I chose my subjects?

I see it, it moves me, and that little voice in my head says, “I’m going to make a print of that”. Yes, it is that simple and yes, it’s quite often a flower, or a bird, or even a caterpillar, but sometimes you’ve just got to make a print of a replica ice cream!

If something provokes a reaction of wonder, fascination, or joy in me, then it becomes a candidate for a print design.

Now you know a little bit more about me and my work, have a look around and find your perfect print . . .

Wait - did you just say replica ice cream?
